St Louis, Missouri, USA. Building Resilience_Part 1
A beautiful large isolated site surrounded by nature. A small building foot print of 108 sqm to house a family of four. Flexible building codes have mitigated red tape.
The house is orientated South East for optimal winter sunlight exposure and outlook. Large 3m high vertical sliding casement windows flood the house with sunlight and natural warmth. Vertical window sliding mechanisms allow the dual purposes of stack effect and cross ventilation to naturally cool the house.
Shed construction is the most economical method to build, and with the addition of a South canopy overhang will shade and cool the interior during summer, preventing overheating.
Interior materials would be reclaimed from building recycling depos and other places to manage budget. The construction budget is around $40,000 USD.
